CHEADLE HULME CROWNED QUEENS OF THE NORTH

A sunny Stockport Grammar School was the setting as the Girls Independent Schools Cup regional qualifiers headed north as five schools battled it out in a highly competitive U13 girls qualifying event.

Host school Stockport Grammar and Cheadle Hulme got off to the perfect start with 1-0 victories in the opening group of games. Cheadle Hulme soon became the team to beat as they followed this up with another victory against Bolton School whilst Nottingham Girl High recovered from their opening game defeat to record their first victory. Cheadle Hulme then laid down a marker of their intent with a victory of local rival Stockport Grammar whilst Nottingham Girls High recorded back to back victories to keep themselves in the hunt.

Cheadle Hulme wrapped up the title and a 100% record when defeating AKS Lytham in their final match and in doing so also booked their place at the girls national finals day at St Georges Park. AKS Lytham produced an excellent comeback to claim victory in their final match whilst the final place at St Georges Park came down to a final match between Stockport Grammar and Nottingham Girls High. In an edgy and nervy game both teams had chances to win the game, with the best chance falling to Stockport in the final minute, however neither side could find a goal and with the game finishing 0-0 it was Nottingham Girls High who claimed their spot at the girls national finals day on goal difference.

Final standings:

1st Cheadle Hulme 12 pts
2nd Nottingham Girls 7pts
3rd Stockport Grammar 7pts
4th AKS Lytham 3pts
5th Bolton School 0pts
