SURREY AND HAMPSHIRE TAKE THE TITLE
The wet weather could not stop the enthusiasm as Harrow School hosted the 2018 ISFA U18 Girls Regional Representative Festival on a very rainy Sunday afternoon. Despite the poor weather the four regions battling it out produced an excellent day of football with many competitive games throughout the day.
The opening matches saw Surrey & Hampshire and the Midlands being victorious with 2-1 and 2-0 scorelines respectively. South Central & North overcame a slow start to the competition to claim second place overall with a 2-1 victory over the midlands in their second game and clinical finishing saw them claim a 3-1 victory over South East in the final game.
Surrey & Hampshire followed up their opening victory with a 2-0 victory over South East that meant they knew a draw in their final match against the defending champions the midlands would be enough to top the table. Despite only needing a draw Surrey & Hampshire produced an excellent defensive display to earn a 1-0 victory in their final match to win the tournament with a 100% record.
ISFA National Football Development Manager praised all the teams for the quality of football in such difficult conditions. “To have 60 girls here representing their regions on such a horrible day weather wise is a real testament to the continued growth of girls football within independent schools. Some of the matches were excellent to watch with end to end attacking play and no shortage of excitement and goalmouth action. A huge thanks to Harrow School, todays match officials, Ethos College and everyone who attended and supported today to make it possible”.
