Over 30 delegates from prep schools across London and the South East attended the first Prep Schools Football Conference hosted by John Lyon School with topics ranging from goalkeeping and futsal to sports psychology and sports nutrition.

The day began with two practical workshops for delegates to choose from, the first being a taster of The FA’s Primary Teachers Award, and the second focussing on utilising goalkeepers as part of the game, delivered by FA coaches Mark Swales and Andy Poole respectively. After a short break Andy Ritchie then delivered a part theory part practical workshop on the theme of the principles of the game and how to coach this using a variety of questioning techniques and challenges.

After lunch, it was time for some theory with attendees choosing between workshops focussing on sports psychology or sports nutrition that were delivered by experts Adam Morris and John McClinton. The final sessions of the day were a practical futsal session led by Andy Ritchie, and a developing the developer session led by John Lyon School’s Director of Sport Kevin Paradise.

ISFA’s Football Development Manager Ian Bent was delighted with the success of the event. “Huge thanks must go to Adam Jones and his team at John Lyon School who did a tremendous job hosting and organising the event. It was great to see so many teachers from so many different schools attend and gain new knowledge and ideas to take back to their schools. This was the first time we have put on such an event, and hopefully this will be the start of an annual event that grows year on year”.
