EXETER CITY 5 ISFA SOUTH WEST 3

Tuesday 1st March 2016

Another very close encounter ensued in the South West’s, now annual, fixture against Exeter City. In a fast flowing match full of attractive football both teams created quite a few chances. The game was played over 4 quarters to allow for various changes of formation and players.

The first quarter saw ISFA come out of the blocks strongly and were the first to create a real chance with Tom Whiteside’s curling effort well saved by the Exeter keeper. The lead was eventually taken by ISFA after 10 minutes after another good passing move from the back, the ball found its way to Will Green who coolly finished from 10 yards out.

Exeter took over in the 2nd quarter playing some superb football but ISFA defended well up until the last 5 minutes when Exeter scored 3 quick goals to take a 3-1 advantage into half time.

Quarter 3 saw ISFA make a comeback Alex Grocott using his pace to get away from an Exeter defender and finish well. ISFA continued to make chances in the quarter but were thwarted by Exeter’s keeper and just as it looked like ISFA would dominate the whole quarter and get back on level terms Exeter broke away and scored to leave the score 4-2.

A very similar pattern emerged in the last quarter with ISFA again starting strongly and pulling a goal back through Liam Nixon’s volleyed finish after some superb work by Sam Malcolm but in the last few minutes, as ISFA pressed for a deserved equaliser, Exeter broke away and scored to make the final score 5-3 to the hosts.

A really good work out for the South West team and a rare chance for them to get together this season. Many thanks to Exeter City for hosting us so well again this year.
