SHREWSBURY 2016

Day 1

Herts and Essex made an impressive start to the Shrewsbury festival with two excellent performances. After a long journey down on Saturday morning, the boys didn't seem tired or weary after their first game with South Central. Midway through the first half, Daniel Oyegoke had netted twice and the boys begun to keep possession with confidence and patience. In the second half, after nice interplay down the right, the ball was switched through the midfield and onto to Brooklyn Kabongolo who coolly finished to extend the lead. John Sasere scored a fourth with a very composed finish before the referee blew his whistle for full time.
Full of confidence, the boys faced London in their second game. After an outstanding finish from the London number 10, Herts and Essex found themselves trailing for the first time. However, a spell of steady possession helped to rebuild confidence in the squad and they were soon of level terms. After an even first half, Herts and Essex began to assert their authority in the game and took more control in midfield areas. Defensively, they remained strong and dealt with London's attacks well. A very well taken penalty by Daniel Oyegoke took Herts and Essex into a 2-1 lead which was maintained until the final whistle.
With three games to play on the Sunday, the boys should be full of confidence after a very successful and pleasing first day.

Day 2

Herts and Essex enjoyed another successful day at the Shrewsbury Festival with a couple of excellent team displays.
The North East region provided tough opposition in the first game of the day, with Herts and Essex running out narrow 2-1 victors. After lunch came the fixture with the South East region. South East were really fired up from the start and had a particularly strong first half. They were rewarded with a very well taken goal just before half time. Herts and Essex came out stronger in the second half and managed to equalise, but we're disappointed with their performance. The final game of the day resulted in the best performance of the Festival. A number of excellent goals were scored and the boys looked comfortable in possession all over the pitch. Ryan Hayes scored a goal of real quality with a left-footed strike to the top corner while a brace by Oliver Moore was reward for a strong individual performance. John Sasere finished off an excellent goal following a mazy dribble from Daniel Oyegoke and Sikiru Onigbanjo scored a tap in just before the final whistle.
Well done to everyone for an enjoyable and successful day.
