HAMPSHIRE U11 SEVEN-A-SIDE CHAMPIONSHIP

CASTLE COURT ARE HAMPSHIRE CHAMPIONS

Beadles school hosted the Hampshire regional U11 qualifiers, on a perfect autumn day. The tournament was enjoyed by twelve participating schools split into two groups of six. The winners and runners up from each group would progress to the semi-final.

In Group ‘A’ after three fixtures the group was still wide open. Prebendal, Ryde Juniors and Highfield where all level on 6 points whilst Churcher’s College where on their toes with 4 points. Both Highfield and Churcher’s College maintained their form for the last two fixtures to secure semi-final spots. It finished extremely tight overall with all six teams securing points on the board.

Group ‘B’ looked to be just as tightly contested. After three rounds of fixtures Prince’s Mead looked comfortable yet to drop any points. Both Castle Court and Cranmore sat on 7 points having drawn 1-1 against each other. Twyford and Portsmouth GS also had points on the board. Prince’s Mead failed to maintain their form dropping points to both Castle Court and Cranmore in their final fixtures. Cranmore went through as group winners claiming maximum points in the last two group fixtures. Castle Court qualified in a close second place. Again, it finished very close with all teams scoring points on the board.

Both semi-final where extremely tight. Castle Court edged one ahead of group ‘B’ winners, Highfield, securing a 2-1 victory. Group ‘A’ runners up, Churcher’s College, held Cranmore to a goalless draw resulting in penalties. Both teams successfully converted their three penalties putting it into “sudden death”. Cranmore where up first and the Churcher’s goalkeeper pulled of an excellent save to put them ahead. Having just pulled off a fantastic save the Churcher's keeper converted his penalty to put them into the final.

The final displayed the excellent football seen throughout the day and with both, Castle Court and Churcher’s College, yet to lose a game it was always going to be a closely contested fixtures. Castle Court managed to come out on top as 2-1 winners, and can now look forward to the National Finals.
