John Lyon once again hosted the ISFA U11 Sevens South-East (Spring) regional tournament. This final regional qualifier for the 2018-19 season saw fourteen schools enjoy a football filled morning. The teams were split into two group of seven with the top two teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals. Whitgift won group A after only dropping points in one game which saw them draw with Blackheath Prep. It was looking tight between Merchant Taylors and The Beacon for second place in the group with both teams have won three and lost one after four games. However, The Beacon maintained their form to win their final few games and progress to the semi-finals. In group ‘B’ Berkhamsted dominated claiming maximum point. Caldicott also progressed to the semi-finals after four wins and a draw gave them 13 points.
In the semi-finals group winners, Whitgift, knocked out Caldicott 2-1, whilst The Beacon held Berkhamsted to a 2-2 draw, but it was the latter who progressed on penalties. The final was set to be an exciting affair with both group winners, who were yet to lose, coming up against each other. The final certainly displayed some outstanding football with both teams playing a good passing game and the Whitgift player scoring what can only be described as a screamer. In this extremely tight and tensed game it was Berkhamsted who came out on top after slotting home two goals to Whitgift’s one. Berkhamsted were crowned South-East Champions for a fourth consecutive year and can once again look forward to the National Finals at St. George’s Park.
