On a wet afternoon at Wolverhampton Grammar School five teams battled it out in the Smith Construction ISFA U13 Girls Cup Midlands Qualifier. The host team made the perfect start defeating Terra Nova thanks to some excellent finishing and they were joined by Repton Prep and Cathedral School in winning their opening matches to set-up what would be close competition. In the first clash of unbeaten teams Cathedral School got the better of Wolverhampton Grammar, however the hosts recovered well to win their next two games.
Repton Prep made an excellent start winning both of their opening matches but were unable to break down Wolverhampton Grammar’s strong defence and suffered their first defeat of the competition. Cathedral also could not break down an excellent defensive performance from Terra Nova and with the match finishing 0-0 thanks to some excellent saves and blocks.
This set-up an exciting last game for Cathedral and Repton with both schools knowing a win would see them win the competition, but a draw would see Wolverhampton Grammar take the title. Cathedral started the game the best and went into an early lead, but Repton produced a fantastic comeback ending with the goal of the tournament to win 3-1 and take the top spot on goal difference and lift the trophy.
